The use of adaptogens stems from traditional Chinese medicine & ancient Ayurvedic practices and treatments.

//

What is an Adaptogen? : an herb or mushroom that increases the body’s resistance to physical, environmental, emotional, or biological stressors and promotes normal physiological function, enabling the body to rest in homeostasis (optimal balanced state).

They are non-toxic substances that non-specifically increase the resistance of an organism to a wide range of harmful influences and normalizes its functions.

Adaptogens help to lessen our stress triggers, and recover faster in response to stress…all while increasing and maintaining overall stress resilience.

Think of them like a stress raincoat— they help stress roll off of us, rather than absorb it.

These incredible super-plants work to treat stress symptoms in a multifaceted way. Oppositely, pharmaceutical drugs only address one symptom at a time. Adaptogens adapt their function according to your body’s specific needs.

*They strengthen the immune, nervous, & glandular systems.

Edible plant extracts such as roots of plants, their berries, and leaves, along with fungi mushrooms are examples of adaptogenic sources.

3 main Classifications:

1- an adaptogen is a substance that is non-toxic in a normal therapeutic dose.

 2- it creates a non-specific state of resistance, meaning it helps you to resist stress regardless of the cause. So it could be psychological stress, environmental stress, physiological stress. It doesn't matter what the cause, it helps you to handle stress more effectively and more appropriately.

3- it has what would be considered a systemic amphoteric effect, meaning it helps to normalize systemic function on a wide range of organs and tissues in the body.

How they Work :

These incredible super-plants work through your hormonal and nervous systems to help your body cope with stress more effectively. This “multiple-pathway action” is known as “network pharmacology,” and is the opposite of pharmaceutical drugs, which are “one drug, one action.” Adaptogens adapt their function according to your body’s specific needs.

They work through one of the two master control systems in the body: the HPA axis (hypothalamic pituitary adrenal axis), which is the interface between the endocrine system, the nervous system, the immune system, the gut/brain so the digestive system, male and female reproductive system, or cardiovascular system including the hormonal aspect of the heart.

The other control system is the SAS, or the sympatho adrenal system, which is your fight or flight. The HPA deals with chronic stress primarily whereas the SAS primarily deals with acute stress.

Traditionally in the Ayurvedic practices, it’s all about mixtures. The sum is greater than its part. They work synergistically, or meaning, they work together, and one active constituent benefits another. Each adaptogen’s benefits are even greater when mixed with each other. We blend a variety of complimentary adaptogens to create elevated and synergistic efficacy, and ultimate wellbeing.

:::

***They are not an overnight phenomenon; after a 2-4 week consistent practice you will feel their effects, reap the benefits daily, and throughout the entirety of each day onwards as you continue to take them.

:::

***Adaptogen blends are best taken daily in hot water, tea, coffee, a smoothie, etc. with a splash of your choice milk or other fat that best serves your digestion. (Food nutrients are best absorbed with the addition of a fat.)
